London comes fifth in mobile performance study
According to a new study, Liverpool offers the best mobile performance in the UK, with London only coming in fifth place.
Liverpool, Manchester, Coventry and Birmingham beat the capital to the top spots, when it comes to the best mobile coverage in the country.
The study, conducted by RootMetrics, averaged each scores across internet calls and texts.
London also fell in the rankings for calls, which landed the city in 14th place in the rankings.
For mobile broadband, the capital also struggled to make it to the top spot, coming in 4th place, despite being one of the first cities to receive 4G.
President and CEO of RootMetrics, Bill Moore said: “Given its importance to the UK economy and our increasing reliance on mobile devices for commerce, it is a surprise that London did not come in first in a single category and, overall, only came fifth.”
To collect the data used to compile the mobile performance rankings, RootMetrics travelled over 25,000 miles across the country.
Other cities that made it into the top 16 for best mobile performance include: Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Sheffield.
The RootMetrics rankings comes shortly after it was reported that mobile operators were in talks about sharing masts to bring better mobile coverage to the UK’s rural areas.
